Anti-Oxidants: An easy way to get younger!

One of the most important elements of maintaining your health is to make sure that your body has all the nutrients.
Antioxidants are the most important nutrients for staying young. They play an important role. If you want to find the best antioxidant supplement for your health, you need to know about antioxidants. You must know which ones will affect your health, and which antioxidant foods will be most beneficial.

What are antioxidants?

As their name implies, antioxidants protect your body against the effects of oxidation. Oxidation is a process which occurs continually inside the body and leads to the formation of free radicals, which makes your cells grow old. When enough antioxidants are not present, free radicals can inhibit cells from functioning or even kill them. This can happen in any part of your body and can lead to a number of health problems. Antioxidants protect against this process by neutralizing free radicals. Therefore it is important to constantly replenish your body's supply.

Antioxidants and the aging process

Since the process of oxidation causes cells to deteriorate or die, free radicals are associated with the body's aging process. The different antioxidants work against this process in two ways. They either interrupt free radicals' chain of growth, or they kill the radicals which initiate the chain, stopping the oxidation process before it starts. Besides providing prevention against aging, antioxidants may also help to reverse damage that has already been done. Antioxidants can be acquired through a number of different foods. It is important to understand the effects of all of them.

Vitamin E

This protects cell membranes from free radical damage and also protects the fats in low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) from oxidation. Vitamin E is found in nuts, seeds, vegetable, fish oils, whole grains, fortified cereals and apricots. Too much Vitamin E may impair blood clotting.

Vitamin C

This is a water-soluble vitamin which is able to fight free radicals in an aqueous environment, like the inner portion of your cells. It works synergistically with Vitamin E. Vitamin C is found in citrus fruits, juices, green peppers, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, cantaloupe, kiwi and strawberries. Too much Vitamin C could cause diarrhea or other gastrointestinal disturbances.

Beta carotene

This is another water-soluble antioxidant which is good at fighting free radicals in low oxygen concentration. Beta carotene is converted in your body to Vitamin A, which is not an antioxidant. It is important for the health of your eyes. Beta carotene is present in liver, egg yolk, milk, butter, spinach, carrots, squash, broccoli, yams, tomato, cantaloupe, peaches and grains. Chronic high doses of beta carotene can turn your skin yellow-orange. It is not toxic, but should not be consumed along with your regular diet.

Selenium

This is a trace element needed only in small quantities. It helps to facilitate the effectiveness of other antioxidants. The primary source of selenium is plants which have been grown in soil rich in the element. Too much selenium intake may cause hair loss, skin rashes, fatigue, gastrointestinal disturbances and nervous system abnormalities.

Coenzyme Q10

This is essential for energy production and is very effective at protecting the body from free radicals. Unlike most other antioxidants which can only be obtained through food, CoQ10 is produced naturally in the body. Since production decreases as you become old, it can be important to take a CoQ10 supplement. Taking a CoQ10 supplement is not dangerous, though some minor side effects include dizziness, irritability, headache, fatigue, heartburn, and visual sensitivity to light.

Considering supplements

It can be difficult to make sure that you're getting all the antioxidants. Due to soil depletion, pollution and chemical treatments, the plants do not contain sufficient amount of nutrients. Taking a multivitamin supplement is the easiest way to ensure that you're getting what you need. To make sure that you're getting the best antioxidant supplement you can, try to find a product made of natural ingredients, as the synthetic form of any nutrient is difficult for your body to absorb.

If you are going to take a supplement, it is also very important to moderate how much antioxidants you are getting, since they can be harmful or could interfere with other medications if consumed in large quantities. When taken in the correct amounts, antioxidants should cause no negative side effects.

Other benefits of antioxidants

Anti aging antioxidants will not only keep you young, but also helps to fight lots of diseases like including cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, arthritis, cataracts, heart disease and stroke.

Antioxidants are vital for your health and helping you to stay young. There is no doubt about that. There are a number of antioxidant foods which can provide the nutrients you need. Finding the best anti-oxidant supplements will help your body against free radicals and the effects of oxidation on your body and it will help in improving your health in a great manner.
